As we grow from little babies to full blown young adults, our teeth grow, fall out, then grow some more. If you think about it, that is a lot for your mouth to have to accommodate over the span of 10-15 years. When we lose our primary teeth, our permanent teeth move in and rarely grow into their space perfectly. This is where our caring professionals here at Gaston Orthodontics come in. Our staff will work to transform improperly aligned teeth and jaws to ensure you have a healthy and beautiful smile for life!
Now, this is where you come in. Orthodontic treatment can be a long and sometimes costly process, so making sure you are caring for that beautiful smile after you get your braces off is imperative for keeping a happy, healthy, and aligned smile. After your orthodontic device or devices are removed, your Gaston Orthodontics team will take an impression of your teeth and create a custom retainer designed for you to wear the rest of your life.
Facts about your teeth after orthodontic device removal:
- The first few weeks after your device is removed is called the “settling in” period.
- Your teeth are guaranteed to shift out of alignment if you fail to wear your retainer daily during the settling in period.
- The pressure forced on your teeth through chewing, biting, and swallowing will attempt to move your teeth.
Your teeth will continue to move, shift, and change throughout your lifetime. This is why your orthodontic team advises you to wear your retainers while you sleep for the rest of your life. We know you do not want your teeth to move to a point where more time and possibly more costs will be required to fix the damage.
If you lose a removable retainer or damage a permanent retainer for some reason, contact Gaston Orthodontics right away at (704) 671 – 4051. Don’t give teeth an opportunity to shift and commit to wearing your retainers for life!
